The Meadow River is located ca. 150 m NE of the plot. It is a high gradient stream and is quite loud. Upslope ca. 50 m from the plot is a large sandstone cliff wall. There is a driveable railgrade 40 m below the plot. The area is owned by the NPS and is likely protected from logging or commercial development. There is a mature TSCA - QURU stand beyond the downed hemlock.;Successional forest community growing on a large colluvial boulder field. Dense moss cover on the rocks, dense fern cover between the rocks. All the larger trees show signs of hill creep. The boulders range from basketball size to the size of refrigerators. Most are quite loose and mobile. There is a huge downed hemlock on the E edge of the plot. Cool and shady.
Representativeness
Medium sized patch of Hemlock colluvial boulder field forest. Plot was placed to sample ELU type 1112. Similar to plot GARI.58. I believe this to be one of the larger c.t.'s found in the study area.
